Should I Buy Korean Air Flight Insurance? - Company Review
Korean Air Flight Insurance is not available to be purchased when using the Korean Air site in the USA. Don’t worry – this is actually good news. We can show you how to get best coverage at the lowest rates.
Over the years we have become used to having airlines push their own travel insurance quite forcefully during a sale. US domestic airlines sell millions of policies every year. Yet, we have shown time and time again that airline flight insurance policies make little sense.
They are routinely over-priced and have very limited cover. So, when we discover that Korean Air doesn’t sell ‘Korean Air Flight Insurance’ we are actually happy. Travelers can now choose – we can show you how. But first, to the airline website itself.
Korean Air – US Site Layout
Korean Air uses a simple grid layout for travelers to assess flight price. We like it – it is clean and intuitive. Lowest price date combinations are highlighted. Korean also displays the lowest expected total fare, including taxes. Many airlines hide taxes and charges until later in check-out, which is something that we truly dislike. Others will only show prices per leg – essentially, doubling the initial displayed price. So, Korean’s system is one we commend.
Korean Air also makes it reasonably simple to see the differences between booking in the different seat classes it offers.
Korean Air – Economy Options
Having chosen our dates, we are presented with the least expensive flights on that particular day. Another example of Korean treating customers fairly.
The least expensive flight for our return journey from San Francisco to Seoul was $960. But now things get a little confusing – we are presented with Fare Options.
At this stage we would like to step back and think about what we are being offered. Korean, like most other airlines, would like to sell us the exact same seat, at different prices.
Of all the pricing tactics that airlines use, this is the one that drives us insane. It is the exact same seat, same food, same entertainment.
But, look at these prices..
That $960 Economy seat can become $2,665 or even $4,741. It’s the same seat! Yes, if you spend thousands of dollars more you can avoid some cancellation fees, but so what? We can easily insure those fees away. There is no sense, whatsoever, in spending thousands of extra dollars just to save a hundred.
Korean Air Travel Insurance – Compare and Save
Remember, Korean Air Travel Insurance was not available when we bought our flight online. So, let’s shop around. At AardvarkCompare we take care of this. We get binding insurance quotes, anonymously, from all of our major travel insurance carriers.
Here are some excellent low-cost options for our trip. iTI, RoamRight, and TII all have great plans for around $30 for our traveler.
One of our favorite low cost policies is the iTI Lite plan. It is certainly low-cost – only $30. But it has $100k of Medical Sickness cover and $250k of Medical Evacuation cover.
What is more surprising is that it also has really robust Cancel for Work cover. We typically do not see such cover in this type of low-cost plan, hence it is one of our favorites.
Cancel for Any Reason
Some people prefer to have a policy in place that provides Cancel for Any Reason cover.
This is a super-powerful benefit that does exactly what it says. A traveler needs to have no reason at all to cancel and still receive a significant refund. The policies that we have that provide such cover rebate at 75%.
The use of Cancel for Any Reason insurance to lower ticket prices has been described as the Airline Ticket Hack. Refundable benefits, yet with Non-Refundable ticket costs.
Korean Air Flight Insurance – One Site – Many Carriers
We love Amazon and are fans of Expedia. Comparison-shopping is simple. Sites like AardvarkCompare do exactly the same for travel insurance. Would you like to visit each travel insurance carrier directly? Of course not. Take the Amazon-like travel insurance experience at Aardvark.
So, when buying trip insurance, which should you choose? That’s the beauty of insurance comparison – you get to see all the best prices in the market.
Does AardvarkCompare charge More?
You won’t find the same trip insurance plans available at a better price – price certainty is guaranteed as a result of anti-discriminatory insurance law in the US. Take a look at Travel Insurance Comparison – Will I Pay More Buying Travel Insurance from a Comparison Website? This is really powerful consumer protection.
A travel insurance marketplace like AardvarkCompare will offer a multitude of different plans from some of the most respected travel insurance carriers in the country. You will only need a few minutes to check value for money, cover, and insurance carrier ratings.
Enjoy your next trip with Korean Air.

I Panicked When I Discovered I panicked when I discovered the Travel Insurance I had through Expedia had expired when I changed my flight reservation. When I went to renew I was told I couldn't. I discovered Aardvark on my AARP site and I was excited I could purchase an even better travel plan with cover starting with my trip departure, at a cost I could afford. I was confused with the initial site and Mr. Breeze reached out to me for clarification. He explained the policy more thoroughly and addressed all my concerns, can't get any better than that! Thank You Aardvark and thank you Jonathan for your assistance. I can go on my trip now knowing I'll be covered for medical emergencies and then some. _ _Barbara
Good Choices, Well Explained I liked the way insurance was explained. I had read an article your company had written explaining Expedia trip cover versus other choices. I used this advice to make the best choice for me and my traveling companions. That choice was to take a policy that provided much better medical and evacuation primary care. Your site allowed comparisons, and I think I got the best value for my money. I don't like constant follow up emails, though. You could back off a bit!! Louise
